Ancient Greece is not just ancient history. The legacy of this classical culture has had a significant influence on the Modern World. Ancient Greeks are responsible for so many of the world’s early steps into language, politics, education and the sciences. The impact of Ancient Greek civilization on our world in terms of Architecture, Mathematics and Philosophy, Arts, sports and the Olympics and the development of Democracy is remarkable.

But how did they really look like, how was their every day life, what kind of habits did they have, what were their religion beliefs and philosophical quests, what was their social life? Are there any concrete answers on these questions and if so, what kind of scientific tools have we used to reach our conclusions? What kind of information can we reveal from the ancient ruins, the pottery even the tombs of the ancient Greeks and how do we accomplish that?

That is exactly the aim of the Educational Touring Excursions, to answer to all these questions and many more, pupils and students may have. The best way to achieve this is through an onsite guided visit to the most important archaeological sites of Southern Greece along with the attendance of a series of seminars for a deeper comprehensive of the customs of the people who have been inhabitants in this geographical area for more than two and a half millennia. The experienced faculty of the University of Peloponnese will guide the students on a fascinating journey through ancient and modern intellectual paths, in order to better understand how the ancient Greek civilization and thinking influenced the modern Western civilization.

The seminars are organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies of the University of Peloponnese. Educational material will be available in electronic form to all the participants prior to their visit to Greece, in order to get better prepared for the tour in the archaeological sites and the seminars.

Certain key activities included in the Educational Touring Excursion are subjected to the auspices of the Municipality of Kalamata and the Prefecture of Peloponnese.
